Cinthia de Oliveira Ishida is a PhD student at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Brazil, whose research focuses on the phonetic and phonological aspects of Apurinã, an Arawakan language spoken in Brazil. Her work involves collaborative language research and documentation, developed through nearly a decade of collaboration with the Apurinã community.

During the Fall term, Cinthia will join McGill as a Graduate Research Trainee (GRT), working under Professor Myriam Lapierre’s supervision on two projects. The first focuses on Apurinã’s nasality and its effects on vowels and consonants, particularly its interaction with voicing in consonants. The second involves collaborating on an investigation of two NT contrasts in Pañara (Jê) using airflow data.
