McLing is happy to welcome Anne Bertrand to the Linguistics Department. Anne is a UBC graduate student finishing up her dissertation, and will spend this year as a Graduate Research Trainee at McGill Linguistics, working in connection with Jessica Coon’s Insight Grant on hierarchy effects, and particularly on the topic of obviation.
My primary focus right now is the semantics and syntax of comparative constructions in Ktunaxa, the traditional language of the Ktunaxa people. I also have ongoing projects on obviation in Ktunaxa and aspect. Beside language documentation and linguistic theory, I’m really passionate about fieldwork ethics and methodology in the context of Indigenous linguistics. I was born and raised in Montreal, and I am thrilled to be back after a stint in the west.
