This week, Richard Compton (UQAM) will be presenting a MULL-themed talk entitled “Collaborating on a Kangiryuarmiutun dictionary & Research Ethics and REB Approval for Linguistic Fieldwork” at 3pm in room 002 of the Linguistics department. The abstract is below:

In the first half hour I’ll present an overview of a collaboration with Inuvialuit community linguist Emily Kudlak to create an updated dictionary of Inuinnaqtun, as Inuit dialect spoken in western Nunavut and the Northwest Territories (Kudlak & Compton 2018), illustrating a workflow to create a dictionary for a low resource language. The second half hour will be a practical workshop for students applying for ethics approval to conduct linguistic fieldwork.
