The Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska has been offering an online class in the Tlingit language taught by long time language teacher Shaaxʼsáani Kéekʼ Shirley Kendall with assistance from Neelaatughaa Anna Clock. James Crippen was invited to present on Friday, April 14 about language variation and dialect differences among Tlingit language communities. The presentation included discussion of the social and linguistic aspects of language variation in Indigenous languages, basic phonological differences between varieties of Tlingit, and example recordings of speakers from different areas.
