This summer, several McGill students and professors organized workshops in collaboration with Kanien’kehá:ka organizations Ionkwahronka’onhátie and the Kanien’kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Center (KORLCC).

On June 12th, 19th, and 26th, Simon LiVolsiAkwiratékha’ Martin, and Heather Goad led Praat workshops in Kahnawà:ke in collaboration with teachers and adult immersion program students at KORLCC.

On July 8th, Anne BertrandSophia Flaim, and Jessica Coon led an ELAN and Audacity workshop in Ahkwesáhsne in collaboration with Ionkwahronka’onhátie. Materials used in the workshop can be found here.

Finally, on August 7th, Katya MorgunovaTerrance Gatchalian, and Willie Myers led an elicitation workshop in Ahkwesáhsne with Ionkwahronka’onhátie, working with advanced second language learners and a first-language speaker to demonstrate elicitation techniques. They have also been working with the Kanien’kéha L1 speakers Konwaronhiá:wi Norton and Katerí Deer throughout the summer in Kanhawà:ke.
